The Ringstrasse is in the inner-city of Vienna. It occupies the space that once held fortification walls that separated the inner-city from the suburbs.
In the late 1800s, the liberals rose in power and built on the Ringstrasse with buildings that represented their beliefs in education and government.
Along with the buildings, apartments stand tall with very elaborate decorations.
